Effect of Basal Media and Pretreatments on Seed Germination of Temperate Cymbidium Species

Abstract
Seeds of C. goeringii¡¿C. kanran $quot;Poolsul$quot; pretreated with 0.1N KOH for 30 minutes were germinated in the medium containing 3g/§¤ Hyponex, 4g/§¤ peptone, 0.1§·/§¤ NAA and 0.01§·/§¤ kinetin. Forty three days were required for germination from seed sowing date. Seed germination of cross seeds between C. goeringii and C. forrestii $quot;Nokwoon$quot; was much improved by either pretreatment of 0.1N KOH for 30 minutes or that of microsonic waves for 240 minutes. But days of germination were more shortened and rhizome growth was more promoted in microsonic wave treatment than in KOH treatment. When intra or interspecific hybrid seeds which were treated with microsonic waves were sowed, the seeds of all the combinations were germinated ranging from 43 days to 90 days after sowing.
